ACRP 04-11: Integrating GIS in Emergency Management at Airports

ACRP commissioned the development of a Reference Guide for airports, emergency responders, and other stakeholders to identify and understand the financial, operational, liability, safety, customer service, and competitive elements for an integrated GIS to Emergency Management at Airports. This Reference Guide will outline the capabilities of GIS with respect to emergency management, examine the benefits, costs, and challenges associated with integrating GIS into emergency management for airports and their mutual aid partners and provide guidance on implementation and use of GIS to support emergency management.

The Reference Guide will provide interested professionals, particularly Airports and their mutual response partners, the ability to successfully utilize the Airport GIS for incident decision making, and make informed decisions on the best actions to address the emergency. Airports and their mutual aid partners will be able to use the Reference Guide to:
  • Improve their understanding of GIS
  • Instruct and educate fellow professionals within their organization
  • Prepare a GIS sharing strategy for their emergency provider stakeholders
  • Execute a cost/benefit analysis for GIS for their organization
