Barich, Inc. Work Continues at San Francisco International Airport
San Francisco International Airport (SFO), one of the world’s leading airports in passenger volume, continues to invest in the airport facilities, technology, and passenger processing efficiencies to meet the high demands of international travel. Barich, Inc. has long been engaged with SFO serving in a variety of roles to ensure successful delivery of major initiatives and project objectives.
In 2007, SFO began its planning and re-commissioning of Terminal 2 from an International Terminal to a low-cost carrier-focused domestic terminal. Recognizing the need to transition to newer technology to meet passenger expectations and to remain a functionally efficient and cost effective terminal for the passengers and tenants of Terminal 2, SFO Design Services Department contracted Barich, Inc. as its special systems consultant. In this capacity, Barich, Inc. provided professional advice towards the determination of specialized information technology systems to be a part of the Design/Build contract. In doing so, Barich, Inc. produced a special systems programming document, Design Narrative, addressing the business and technology requirements of SFO and providing recommendations for at least the following specialized information technology systems: Common Use; Dynamic Signage; Baggage Processing; and Airport/Resource Management.
In 2008, Barich, Inc. was contracted by SFO ITT to assess the existing Automated Vehicle Information (AVI) infrastructure and develop the Request for Proposal to replace the aging system and automate the Ground Transportation Management functions.
Building upon its successful work in developing the Design Narrative, Barich, Inc. was retained to produce the Master Test Plan (MTP), which was adopted by SFO in cooperation with the construction team, the airport, and system integrators. Barich, Inc. continued into the next phase of the project, on behalf of the Turner Construction team, leveraging the MTP deliverable, by administering the contractor's test plans and test processes for the passive infrastructure and terminal passenger processing and operation systems.
The systems used in Terminal 2 are an extension of the recently upgraded systems in the International Terminal where Barich, Inc. again engaged in a key role providing implementation and testing oversight of the systems installation. The International Terminal upgrade and the T2 project included new operational and information display systems and hardware, and new system interfaces including automated data feeds from a variety of flight data information providers. Both projects were completed successfully in time for the reopening of the new Terminal 2 on April 14, 2011.
Currently, Barich, Inc., as part of the Master Architect Team, continues its work at SFO by providing IT Specials Systems Consulting Services toward the redevelopment plans for the Airport's Terminal 1. Work is scheduled to take place during the course of 2012.
